Daim Recipe for Melissa

Daim Recipe for Melissa
because Australia sucks and the Daim there is way too expensive!

2 tbsp flour
2 tsp cocoa powder
2 tsp light syrup
2 tbsp butter
4 tbsp sugar
1/2 dl almond (around 1/4 cup), peeled and chopped
100 g chocolate

Mix everything except the chocolate in a saucepan.
Let the mixture cook on low heat until it thickens.
Spread on baking paper and let cool.
Melt the chocolate and spread over the candy.
Cut into pieces. Eat.

I don't know how good this is cause I haven't tried it yet. If anyone gives this a try, do let me know how it turns out.

  2. It's in the fridge!!! It took me a while to get to making it because I didn't know what light syrup was. Arlin suggested I try golden syrup so I did.

I've sampled a bit at every stage. It's not as crunchy as I would've liked but I think if I play around with the proportions a little it will turn out. Thanks for posting the recipe.

I'll let you know what it's like once it's cooled yeah? Oh and I'll take a photo too!

  4. Hey! I'm thinking of baking again.. hehehe.. yeah it turned out alright of course the real thing is better but I reckon if I tinker around a bit with the recipe, add brown sugar and maybe crush up the almonds a bit more it will be almost like the real Daim.

It's pretty good the way it is though - I used Cadbury Dairy Milk with Macadamia coz I didn't have any plain choc. Thanks guys!

Ohh cant wait til you visit again Arlin. I have some killer recipes which would be fun to try out :)

  5. Wow I wanna see pics! Maybe you can make loads and sell them! Melissa's Daim. All this talk of food is really making me hungry...

Haha I just remembered another thing. Remember when we went to Melissa's and played with her easy bake oven? Or was it some kinda chocolate maker thingy? We haven't grown up after all!

Oh and I have no idea what light syrup is either. Over here it's called ljus sirap and I just translated it directly. Could be light corn syrup or something like that.

  6. Heheh yes...of course we remember!...Mel you had both the easy bake oven and candy maker right? but I think we only played with the candy maker...which was kinda lame...thinking about it now...I think all we did was melt freddo chocolate and put it in some kinda mould right? Ohh and remember when Mel came over to our place and we played with the ice-cream maker? hehe which was more like slush maker!..heheh we were such toy freaks then. :p

And Nene...i'll never forget your stupid milkshake maker. And how you bought that when you were OLD! hahah....you could've used a proper blender ok....childishhhhh :p

  7. Freddo chocolate! Damn that was good. That stupid frog.

Haha yeah the ice-cream maker was so lame. We had to crank the handle thing over and over and it didn't even taste like real ice-cream. Could have gone out and bought ice-cream for 20 cents.

But yeah my milkshake maker was lamer. I must have been 16 or 17 when I bought it for myself. God how pathetic. But it was Baskin' Robbins!

Someone else bought that stupid peanut butter maker which sucked just as bad too! We needed so much peanuts just to make a teeny bit of peanut butter. Not even enough to spread on bread. :p

  8. Haha... peanut butter maker? I think the lamest gadget these days is some kinda hot drink maker. You just shove chocolate into it and the idea is that the hot milk melts it. Lame.

What I really want is one of those self freezing ice cream makers!!!!

And yes, I remember everything - the easy bake and the candy maker. That was so much fun. We should get together and do it again - but using grown up appliances this time ;)

Have you guys seen the candy floss maker?

Btw, this is crazy but I wanna make my own nutella. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Oh and you know, may I suggest the tagboard idea again? ... then you guys won't have to scroll to the posts coz I like having these convos with you guys!

  11. I wanna make my own Nutella coz I want one that's more hazelnutty and chocolatey and not as sweet lol. Did you know that German Nutella is much nicer (apparently) so if you can get hold of it, definitely try it!

    Woot! Tagboard!!! Yay!

That Daim knock-off was pretty good. Thanks, Renee!
